PROJECT TIMELINE
July 2014
Attended coordinator training in Austin, TX for program evaluation with coordinators from CFIS and Centennial. Clarified some gray areas in community service and the inconsistencies in how community service had been allowed at Raney. Had several discussions with both coordinators in ate area of making program requirements consistent within the Raney program and between the three programs district wide.
August/September 2014
Met with Grace Bosquez and Mary Anne Rasmussen to discuss IBMYP community service requirements and to create a continuum between the partnership schools. Offered a community service presentation for 6th grade parents only. Restructured program and revised all community service documents and aligned them with the IBMYP Learner Profile. Student reflection was revised to be a paragraph rather than two sentences and is separate from the student log. Created Excel spreadsheet to document student hours for each trimester.
October 2014
Updated the community service requirements for IBMYP and communicated that information to all IBMYP families. I received over 100 emails asking for clarification and sometimes engaging in debate. Organized a volunteer team to copy 2,000 documents and to assemble community service folders for the 200 students in the program by October 17th.
November 2014
All students who completed community service hours during trimester one must submit their folders and documents for verification. I devised a collection protocol and communicated that protocol to all parents, teachers, and administration. It took me four weeks to go through all of the folders and to document all of the corrections needed in individual student folders.
December 2014
I met individually with 100 students who had significant errors in their community service documents or did not meet program criteria for service. This information also had to be communicated to parents via individual emails and meetings. Held a Community Service FAQ night for parents to clarify program requirements and to answer questions.
January 2015
Met with language arts teacher in order to ask for her help in collecting student folders. Trained a parent volunteer who would help me evaluate the community service folders for accuracy and verify hours.
February 2015
Collected community service folders and determine if students are evaluating the forms with more care and precision and to record hours of students in Excel spreadsheet. Parent volunteer helped in evaluating and verifying student community service folders.
March 2015
Attended a category 1 IBMYP Coordinator's training.
April 2015
Begin to look ahead to 2015-2016 and to clarify areas in the community service plan where students and parents had repeated questions over the year. The final collection period for 8th grade is also this month. Student recognition will be determined by the total number of hours performed. I will also need to address any instances where students did not meet the minimum program requirements for community service.
May 2015
Meet with coordinator from partnership intermediate school to debrief on the year and to ask questions regarding penalties, awards, recognition, and begin summer presentation for in-coming sixth grade families.
