Welcome to my website! My name is Arronda Hudson and I teach sixth grade language and literature and individuals and societies in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) at Raney Intermediate. The program consists of a "school within a school" model of 200 sixth, seventh, and eight students within the Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD). The program emphasizes inquiry based learning, intercultural awareness, civic responsibility, interdisciplinary study, and development of critical analysis skills through rigorous instruction and assessment. As the IBMYP Program Coordinator, I provide curriculum support to fifteen teachers on the Raney campus, manage program events, provide professional development, support district Parent Interest Nights, and am currently leading the re-certification process at our school site.
I work closely with the IB Parent Booster organization which raises approximately $100,000 annually to support the enrichment and extracurricular activities of Raney's IBMYP. I communicate regulary with the parents of the students across the program and work collabratively with the coordinators from Corona Fundamental Intermediate School and Centennial High School's MYP program.
John Dewey said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” I believe this statement to the very core of my being and it permeates every fabric of my leadership, classroom instruction, classroom environment, student relationships, parent relationships, and my professional relationships. What this says to me is that I make the single most difference in my students’ lives in the year that they are with me. Thus, I am fully and completely committed to the success of each and every student because I am affecting his or her life permanently. I am indelibly writing their “life transcript” and I want that transcript to reflect the benefits of a quality education. Thus each student’s success in learning, meeting grade level standards, experiencing a meaningful educational experience, and accessing an excellent and equitable education are the cornerstone of my drive and determination to be exceptional. To this end, I also provide support to community businesses, parents, and colleagues because they are critical stakeholders in the lives of our students.

Letha Raney Intermediate School
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) Coordinator
· The Letha Raney IBMYP program supports the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) aims, philosophy and pedagogical approach to instruction for approximately 200 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The program provides a variety of extra-curricular events and experiences which contribute and an advanced level of academic rigor contribute to a holistic approach to each student’s education. As coordinator, I am responsible for the professional development and curriculum support of the sixteen teachers within the program, this includes planning and scheduling conferences and preparing, organizing and delivering trainings across the three school partnership. I work closely with the coordinators and principals at the other two schools in the IBMYP partnership through monthly meetings and weekly emails.
· Unique to the program for the 2014-2015 school year is our self-study requirement. The district IBMYP program is undergoing the process of re-authorization which involves data collection, symmetrical alignment of the programs, curriculum team feedback and aggregation of data/response from these teams, rigorous self-evaluation along a continuum of rubrics designed to measure the program’s effectiveness on achieving the high aims and goals of the IBMYP. This involves hours of collaboration at the school site, cross-school, and district levels coordinators/leadership and support and structuring of vertical articulation of teachers across schools.
· Specific to Letha Raney is the Parent Booster role in facilitation of the fundraising component in support of the extra-curricular events within the program. These events require me to plan, support, and execute nine field trips, monthly bi-weekly parent board meetings, monthly parent meetings, monthly family events, bi-weekly student board meetings, facilitate peer-to-peer mentoring, three science camps. and approximately ten fundraisers. The program provides these services to all students and families with necessary annual costs of close to $90,000 which are primarily absorbed through monies gained through fundraising.
· In addition to the full time coordination of the IBMYP program I teach four classes of IBMYP sixth grade students in the subject matter areas of language and literature and individuals and societies.

· The IBMYP’s approach to individuals and societies includes a strong focus on inquiry, investigation, and developing a global mindset each achieved through the highest levels of academic rigor. Students collect, describe and analyze data used in studies of societies; test hypotheses; and learn how to interpret increasingly complex information, including original source material. This focus on real-world examples, research and analysis is an essential aspect of the subject group. IBMYP individuals and societies encourages learners to respect and understand the world around them and equips them with the necessary skills to inquire into historical, contemporary, geographical, political, social, economic, religious, technological and cultural factors that have an impact on individuals, societies and environments. It encourages learners, both students and teachers, to consider local and global contexts. Community service is an important component within the IBMYP program requirements.
